Who built the motors in the fast and the furious 1′s Dodge Charger?

Have a mechanic who is a friend of a friend and has claimed was one of the mechanics that helped build the Charger. I am considering having him do some work on my car but I want to find out if he is legit.

First off, it was a movie car. It was built by people who build cars…to be driven wrecklessly a few times on a movie set. That car had about 1/3 the power they claimed in the movie, so if he’s claiming it had the claimed 900hp and he helped build it, he’s lying. Also, “helped build the charger” could mean he ran and got water for the people who actually worked on it. You might want to get more specifics from him as to WHAT he did on the car. Post it back or just email me and I’ll tell you if he’s FOS or not. You could ask him what kind of blower was on it too, that will help, because there was no blower on that car. What you saw sticking “out” of the hood of the car was, in fact, bolted TO the hood on the driving car. The one where you see the hood off very well could have been 900hp, but they obviously weren’t going to use it for stunts.

Yes, it had a bogus blower, did a humorous bogus wheelie, and probably made no impressive power.

by build, do you mean helped glue the thing together? That’s no 900HP Charger. The thing probably barely ran. I love that car, but c’mon. Do you honestly believe they’d purposely wreck a car with that much in the engine? The movies are cool, for 13 year old boys who like bright green flashy cars. The real-world mechanics were apparently thought of by a computer geek who has never looked under a car hood. The engine shot was probably legit, but everything else, er, no

There was an article in mopar muscle magizine that talked about the charger…It was a beater from the start….It had a 350 chevy motor with a fake blower…To do the wheelie in the movie they had hydraulic bars under the car to push it up making it look like it did a wheelie…I think he is pulling your leg…

Yes obviously it is a movie car… It was in a movie. There were actually 7 chargers built and 5 of them in fact had crate chevy 350 motors with fake bolt on blowers. The 6 th one had a either a 383 stroker or a 440 (I don’t remember anymore). The 7 th one is real, it is used in the garage scenes and was the one that was taken to the SEMA show as well as other car shows. I don’t know if had 900hp or not. Seems a little high to me. Your best bet is to talk to the mechanic and ask him to provide some kind of proof. You might also see if you can locate his name in the credits of the movie. Almost all mechanics are proud of the work they do so just ask him to give other examples or other references to see if he does good work.
